Help/Getting started
Install on Windows
Orbit runs on Windows 10 and 11, and on Windows on Arm. The installer takes a couple of minutes, and Orbit updates itself after that.
Before you start
- Windows 10 or Windows 11. Windows on Arm runs the same installer.
- An AI plan. A Claude plan or a SuperGrok plan, or an OpenAI API key for Codex. You connect them after you install. See Connect Claude.
Download and install
- Go to the download page and choose Windows. It downloads
Orbit-Setup-x64.exe. - Open the downloaded file.
- Follow the installer. It installs Orbit for your Windows account, and you can change the folder it goes into if you want to.
- Open Orbit from the Start menu.
Orbit for Windows is code-signed by Lime Designer Ltd, so Windows installs it without a "Windows protected your PC" warning.
What happens the first time
Orbit opens on its welcome screen and walks you through setup: your Orbit account, your AI plans, your Moon and the folders you keep your projects in. You can skip any step and come back to it later in Settings, General, Run setup again.
Next: Sign in and start your trial.
Updates
Orbit checks for new versions every few hours and downloads them in the background. When one is ready, Update ready · Restart appears at the bottom of the chat list. You can also check by hand in Settings, General, Check for updates.
What's different on Windows
Almost everything works the same as on a Mac. A few things are Mac-only for now, and Orbit says so where they would appear:
| Feature | On Windows |
|---|---|
| Voice calls with your Moon and Orbs | Mac only for now (Codex's own voice works) |
| The Moon's computer | Mac only: it runs in a virtual machine through macOS |
| Touch ID to show a saved secret | Mac only. On Windows, saved secrets stay hidden |
Transcripts work on Windows too, on Windows 11 and Windows 10 (version 2004 or later). The first call you transcribe asks for microphone permission; say yes, or allow Orbit later in Windows Settings, Privacy & security, Microphone. See Transcripts.
Keyboard shortcuts use Ctrl where the Mac uses ⌘, and Alt for ⌥. Your keys and secrets are encrypted by Windows for your account, where a Mac uses its Keychain. See Keyboard shortcuts.
Uninstall
If you subscribe, cancel first in Settings, Orbit account, Manage billing. Removing the app doesn't cancel your subscription. Then open Windows Settings, Apps, find Orbit and choose Uninstall. See Billing and cancelling.
Common questions
Windows still says "Windows protected your PC". Is it safe?
Check the file came from superorbit.app and that More info names Lime Designer Ltd as the publisher, then click Run anyway. Orbit has been signed since 0.1.21; an older download isn't, and Orbit updates itself from there.
Can I use Orbit on a Mac and a Windows PC?
Yes. Sign in with the same Orbit account on each. Your chats and files stay on the computer they were made on. See Devices.
