Troubleshooting

Most problems have a quick fix. Find what you're seeing below. If it's still not right, tell us from Settings, Feedback.

Models and sign-in

A model is greyed out, or a chat says it isn't signed in

  1. Open Settings, AI models. Each card shows Not installed, Not signed in or who you're signed in as.
  2. Install or sign in from the card. See Connect Claude or Connect Grok.
  3. Click Reconnect all at the bottom of the page. It restarts each model's program.

The dots beside Settings at the bottom of the Orb list show each model's state at a glance. Point at a red one to see what's wrong.

The Claude card says Claude Code is older than Orbit needs

Click Update Claude Code on the card. Orbit installs Anthropic's current version, which keeps itself up to date.

Codex says "add your OpenAI API key in Settings"

Codex has no key to run on. Add one in Settings, AI models, under the Codex card. If you have a key there already, click Check. If the check fails, the key may have been revoked or your OpenAI account may be out of credit: make a new key at platform.openai.com, Remove the old one and save the new one. See Add Codex.

My plan ran out part way through a job

Switch the chat to another model from the picker under the message box. It carries on with everything said so far. With two Claude accounts, turn on Switch accounts when one runs low in AI models. See Switch models mid-chat.

A chat says "This chat is read-only for now"

It runs on a model that isn't available in Orbit right now. Everything said so far stays. Switch it to another model to carry on.

Your Moon

My Moon isn't checking in

  • Open its profile. If it says Paused, click Resume.
  • Quiet hours means it's waiting for them to end. Change them in its settings.
  • Needs a model means its model isn't signed in. Sign in, or pick another under Model in its settings.
  • It only runs while Orbit is open. Turn on Open Orbit when you log in in Settings, General.

The Scheduled page shows when check-ins last ran, and why if one failed.

"Juno is busy with a check-in. Try again in a minute."

Your Moon is in the middle of a check-in. Tidy now and similar buttons work again once it finishes.

Updates

Orbit isn't updating

Open Settings, General and click Check for updates. On a Mac you can also choose Orbit, Check for Updates… in the menu bar.

  • "This copy of Orbit doesn't update itself" means it wasn't installed from superorbit.app. Download it again from the download page.
  • The update waits for working chats. A restart to update waits until working chats finish, so none is cut off. Click Install now to go ahead anyway; they carry on after the restart.

My Mac asks for its password after an update

From Orbit 0.1.17, Orbit keeps its own key in your Mac's Keychain, so restarts and updates no longer ask for your password. The first start after updating moves your saved keys across to it once, and keeps a backup. If macOS asks during that move, type your Mac password and click Always Allow. It won't ask again.

Mac and Windows

macOS keeps asking about Documents, Desktop or Downloads

Give Orbit Full Disk Access once and macOS stops asking. In Settings, Permissions, click Open System Settings, then click +, choose Orbit and switch it on. If Orbit is already listed, remove it and add it again.

Windows says "Windows protected your PC"

Orbit for Windows is signed by Lime Designer Ltd from 0.1.21, so this shouldn't appear. If it does, check More info names Lime Designer Ltd, then click Run anyway. Builds before 0.1.21 weren't signed. See Install on Windows.

Voice calls are missing on Windows

They're Mac only for now, as is the Moon's computer. Transcripts work on Windows.

Account and billing

"Payment failed. Update your card to keep Orbit"

Open Settings, Orbit account, Manage billing and update your card.

"Orbit can't reach its server right now"

Check your internet connection. Orbit keeps working for up to 7 days without reaching our server, but the AI models need a connection.

I didn't get my sign-in code

Check spam, then click Send a new code. Codes work for 10 minutes. See Sign in and start your trial.

A long chat only shows its recent part

Very large chats, for example ones full of screenshots, open with their most recent messages and say Showing the most recent part of this thread. Nothing is lost.

⌘K says "Still reading your chats and files…"

The search index is being built on your computer. Give it a few minutes the first time.

Still stuck?

Report it from Settings, Feedback, Report a bug, with a screenshot if you can. See Contact.
